Why Stadiums Went Glass-Free
Stadium and arena cups are shatterproof printed drinkware designed for high-volume venue bars. We mould ours in the UK from food-grade polypropylene, UKCA mark the pint and half pint measures, and print them in-house in full colour or single colour.
The move to glass-free was a safety decision before it was an environmental one. Glass on a terrace or a concourse is a hazard during the event and a worse one during an exit, and most UK stadiums and arenas now operate a blanket policy against it. A shatterproof pint cup removes the hazard without dropping service quality, which is why plastic drinkware became standard rather than exceptional at major venues.
Venue bars have a distinctive operational profile that the cup has to suit. Most of the night's trade happens in two short windows either side of an interval, so throughput is everything: cups need to stack tightly for fast restocking, pour cleanly at speed, and carry a moulded fill line the bar staff can hit without thinking. Judging a pint by eye at 400 serves an hour is how venues end up with a Trading Standards problem.
Consistency between orders is the requirement nobody mentions until it fails. Arena cups are bought by the tens of thousands and dropped into existing racks, dispensers and wash systems, so a reorder that is two millimetres different is a real operational problem. Because we mould from our own tooling on a single site, the cup you approve is the cup you get again next season.
Reuse is increasingly part of the specification too. Every cup is rated for 200 or more commercial wash cycles with in-mould print that does not lift in a glasswasher, so venues running a return scheme or an in-house wash operation get seasons rather than fixtures out of a single order. Minimum order is 50 units for a trial, scaling well past 100,000 for a full venue roll-out.
