What Custom Actually Means in a Plastic Cup
Custom plastic cups are injection-moulded reusable cups produced to your specification. We mould ours in Stockton-on-Tees from food-grade polypropylene and decorate them on the same site, which is the reason the specification is genuinely open rather than a choice between two stock items.
It is worth being clear about what most suppliers mean by custom. The common model is to buy a finished moulded cup — often imported — and apply a printed label to it. That is decoration, not customisation: the size, the wall thickness, the rim profile and the fill line were all decided by someone else. Because we run the moulding machines, those are variables we can discuss.
Material grade is the first of them. We mould from BPA-free PP5 polypropylene selected for impact strength and heat tolerance, not for the lowest material cost, because that is what allows a plastic cup to survive two hundred cycles through a 60°C commercial glasswasher without hazing, cracking or losing its rim. A cheaper polymer will make it through a dozen.
Then geometry. Wall section affects how the cup feels in the hand and how it survives being thrown into a crate. Rim profile affects both drinking comfort and stacking. Nesting depth decides how much storage a matchday's stock takes. And where a legal measure is needed, the fill line has to be moulded to a verified tolerance to carry a UKCA mark — printing a line on afterwards does not make a cup compliant.
Decoration is applied during moulding rather than after it. In-mould labelling places the printed label into the tool and injects polypropylene behind it, fusing artwork and cup into a single wall. There is no film to lift and no surface ink to abrade, which is why custom printed plastic cups made this way still look right at the end of a season. Minimum order is 50 units, production is around 10 working days, and selected lines run on a 48-hour express service.

Food-Grade Polypropylene
We mould from BPA-free food-grade PP5, chosen for impact strength and heat tolerance rather than for the lowest material cost. It is what makes a cup survive a 60°C glasswasher two hundred times.
