Running a Deposit Return Scheme That Works
Reusable festival cups are event cups issued against a refundable deposit, returned to a collection point, washed and re-served. Ours are moulded in the UK from food-grade polypropylene, rated for 200 or more commercial wash cycles, and specified for the punishment a deposit scheme actually inflicts.
The scheme is the product, not the cup. Charging a refundable deposit on the first drink is what turns drinkware from a consumable into an asset: attendees bring the cup back because they want the money, and the cups arrive at a wash point instead of the floor. Events running a properly signposted deposit typically recover the large majority of their stock, which changes the economics of the whole bar operation.
Physical design decides whether that works operationally. Reusable festival cups need to nest tightly so return points clear fast and crates do not eat the back-of-house space you do not have; they need a rim and base that survive being thrown into a crate rather than placed in one; and they need print that does not lift in a glasswasher, because a cup that looks tired after one weekend will not go out again next season.
Measurement is where most schemes fall down. Without tracking, recovery rate is an estimate, and an estimate is not much use to a sponsor, a local authority or a sustainability report. Adding unique QR codes turns each cup into a trackable asset, supports digital deposits, and produces a recovery figure you can actually stand behind.
The rest is logistics, and it can be outsourced. We offer washing, drying and storage services alongside the cups, so recovered stock can go out to be cleaned and come back event-ready rather than sitting in a container losing condition. Minimum order is 50 units, standard production is around 10 working days, and 48-hour express is available on selected lines.
